The concept of dermaplaning is similar to barbers who use a straight blade to shave beards. A dermatologist-approved blade is dragged slowly across the skin in sections at a 45-degree angle. This removes the upper layer of the surface of the skin, removing dead cells, hair, scar tissue and ultimately, anything that is causing your skin to feel uneven.
For some clients, the skin may be slightly red after their dermaplaning, but this is the only form of side effect. The treatment is entirely safe and does not use any products, which means that there is no risk of a reaction.
The hair on your face will not grow back thicker after dermaplaning. This is because ‘peach fuzz’ is very different from the coarse hair that is on other areas of the body. Peach fuzz is also called vellous hair, which is so fine that it is impossible for it to grow back thicker.
During dermaplaning, all dead skin cells and hair is removed, which means that you will need to wait for these to accumulate before booking another appointment to achieve maximum results. With this in mind, it is usually recommended to wait 3-4 weeks between appointments.
